LEAVE – EDUCATION. 17.01 The Employer recognizes the desirability of providing a climate for employees to improve their education level, to enhance their opportunities for advancement, and to enhance their qualifications. 17.02 Education Leave may be granted by the Employer to regular full-time and regular part-time employees requesting such leave, subject to the following provisions: (a) Education leave will be utilized for a) courses that relate to the employee’s employment with the Employer or to maintain their registration with their governing association or (b) for employees to sit for exams for relevant professional courses, and which are first approved by the Employer. 17.03 An employee shall be granted leave with pay to take courses at the request of the Employer. The Employer shall bear the full cost of the course, including tuition fees, laboratory fees, and course required books, necessary traveling, and subsistence expenses. In such circumstances the premium provisions of the agreement shall not apply.
