Leave of Absence for Public Office. 1. The Board recognizes the right of an employee to participate in public affairs. Therefore, upon written request, the Board shall grant leave of absence without pay to such employees. In the event that the leave does not exceed five (5) working days, the employee's benefits shall be maintained and the Board will pay its annual share of such benefits. Benefits for employees granted leave for a longer period than five (5) working days shall be continued in effect but be paid for by the employee. 2. An employee who is elected to public office shall be granted leave of absence without pay and benefits. Upon return from the leave of absence the employee shall return to the first vacant position for which they are qualified. On return from leave of absence an employee shall be granted the same number of day’s seniority as on the date of leaving.
