Leaves Available. The employee is entitled to up to twelve weeks of “family leave” in any 12 month period for any of the following events: A. Birth, Adoption, or Xxxxxx Care. 1. An employee is entitled to unpaid leave for: a. Birth of the employee’s child; b. Placement of child for adoption or as precondition to adoption; c. Placement of a child in xxxxxx care. 2. Entitlement expires 12 months after birth, adoption, or placement. 3. Spouses who are both employed by Xxxxxx County are only entitled to 12 weeks of combined, aggregate leave for the birth, adoption, or xxxxxx care of a child. The two employed parents may split the time in any manner they choose, however, upon the employer’s approval. B. Care of Child, Spouse, or Parent with Serious Health Condition. 1. An employee is entitled to leave to care for the employee’s child, spouse, or parent who has a “serious health condition.” 2. To “care for” includes caring for either physical or psychological needs. The employer may request verification that the employee is needed to provide care or that the employee’s presence will be beneficial to the family member.
