MAXIMIZING THE LENGTH OF SHIFTS. (a) While the Employer is entitled to schedule shifts of various lengths as provided for in this Agreement, the Employer is obligated to first schedule the maximum number of eight (8) hour shifts before instituting shifts of 7, 6, 5 or 4 hours.

MAXIMIZING THE LENGTH OF SHIFTS. (a) While the Employer is entitled to schedule shifts of various lengths as provided for in this agreement, the Employer is obligated to first build and maintain shifts of or hours as the only recognized shifts. Wherever possible all eight (8)hour shifts will be scheduled before seven (7) hour shifts are scheduled, with a similar progression downward to four hour shifts. The obligation outlined in (a) above shall not be construed as requiring the Employer to create split shifts or incur any penalty.
