Common use of Meal and Break Periods Clause in Contracts

Meal and Break Periods. 1. Whenever any employee is called to work four or more hours prior to the beginning of the shift, the employee shall normally be given a ten-minute rest period before starting said employee’s regular shift. 2. Exceptions may be made with respect to when and for how long such rest periods will be permitted where work operations, including the handling and operation of equipment and machines, are of such a nature that the work needs to be continued without interruption. Under these conditions the supervisor should allow an employee a ten-minute rest period during the work period outside the shift.
