Meal Intervals. An employer shall not require or permit an employee to work for more than five hours continuously without a meal interval of not less than one hour, during which interval such employee shall not be required or permitted to perform any work: Provided that- (a) periods of work interrupted by intervals of less than one hour shall be deemed to be continuous; and (b) here normal shifts are worked in any workplace, a normal shift worker shall be granted one interval of not less than 30 minutes per normal shift, during which interval such employee shall not be required or permitted to perform any work.
