Common use of Personal Leave of Absence Clause in Contracts

Personal Leave of Absence. ‌ (a) Continuing Sessional Lectures may, no later than October 1st, request in writing from the Unit Administrator a leave of absence from their Unit Allocation obligations for a period of up to three consecutive academic terms beginning no earlier than May 1st of the following calendar year. Requests for leave will be considered in light of academic unit operational needs, will be responded to no later than January 31st and will not be unreasonably denied. (b) Employees who are on approved personal leave of absence may elect to maintain benefits coverage while on leave by providing post dated cheques to the Benefits Office no later than one month prior to the start of such leave in order to cover off both the employer and employee portions of the benefit premiums. (c) Provided they fulfill their obligations under the Collective Agreement and make known to their Unit Administrator appropriate contact information for such purpose, they will retain their Unit Allocation upon return from leave and will be deemed to have accrued seniority for the purposes of layoff. They will not accrue units during the period of the leave towards the next calculations of University and Unit Allocation.
