If a workforce reduction is expected, management will already respond to this in the period leading up to it by being circumspect in filling any vacancies, extending temporary contracts or hiring external staff. Continual assessment will take place of whether this is necessary and appropriate, particularly where redundancies are expected within an organizational unit.
