Highly Qualified. TEACHER - Whenever the Board furnishes a letter to a parent or guardian concerning a teacher’s credentials in accordance with Every Student Succeeds Act, the teacher shall also receive a copy of the letter, and to whom it was sent.
Highly Qualified. A. The District shall notify each teacher in writing by October 1 of each year of his/her “highly qualified” status under the federal law for his/her current school year teaching assignment. The Association shall be provided a copy of each notice. It is the responsibility of each teacher to properly and timely fill out any forms the District may require and submit to the District verification of any tests or courses passed which are relevant to his/her “highly qualified” status. B. The District and the Association share a common interest in seeing that all members of the teaching staff obtain “highly qualified” status under the federal law . To facilitate that goal, the District agrees to allow Teacher to satisfy any of the options for becoming “highly qualified” for his/her teaching assignment that are recognized and approved by both the United States Department of Education and the Michigan Department of Education. C. If any actions required by the Board or District under federal law result in a duty to bargain under the Public Employees Relations Act, bargaining shall be initiated by the parties in a time frame sufficient to allow completion of bargaining prior to the deadlines specified in federal law.

Highly Qualified. Paraprofessionals. Beginning September 1, 2009, all newly hired employees for the positions of Title I paraprofessional, Special Education paraprofessional, and Technology paraprofessionals will have at least an Associate degree in order to obtain a position in those classifications. The Board may require an additional assessment (mastery of Work Keys) at the cost of the applicant if it is felt that the applicant may not have adequate skill levels for a particular position.

In achieving that goal, teachers shall become “highly qualified” based on the “highly qualified” model or models selected by the District (that includes the high objective uniform state standards of evaluation (HOUSSE) process) from among those approved by both the United States Department of Education and the Michigan Department of Education. 2. If any actions required by the Board or District under NCLB result in a duty to bargain under the Public Employment Relations Act, bargaining shall be initiated by the parties in a time frame sufficient to allow a reasonable opportunity for bargaining prior to the deadlines specified in the NCLB.
Highly Qualified. The Association and the District shall work together to assure all employee can become highly qualified. The District shall pay for Praxis Exam fees and one (1) study guide for an employee opting to take and ultimately passing the exam to obtain “Highly Qualified” status under state and federal rules.

Highly Qualified. Pursuant to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), paraprofessionals must meet “highly qualified” requirements. If it is determined by the Ohio Department of Education or the United States Department of Education that the Employer will lose funding if it employs paraprofessionals who do not meet the “highly qualified” requirements, all paraprofessionals who are not “highly qualified” according to ESSA will be subject to (1) an involuntary transfer to a position for which they are eligible; or (2) will be terminated. This determination will be made in the sole discretion of the Board or its designee. For purposes of this Article, “Paraprofessional” is defined in accordance with the ESSA.
