Common use of Political Office Clause in Contracts

Political Office. (1) The Employer recognizes the rights of employees to participate in public affairs. Therefore, upon written request, the Employer shall grant leave of absence without pay to enable employees to be candidates in federal, provincial or municipal elections. If elected, the employee shall be granted a leave of absence for one (1) full term of office, and the Employer may post the position for the full term of office notwithstanding the twelve (12) month limitation in Article 31. (2) When the employee wishes to return to his/her position, he/she shall give the Employer advance notice of three (3) weeks. He/she shall be placed in his/her former position or, if that position no longer exists, a similar position. If such employment is not available, Article 32 shall apply.
