Extended Leaves. Paragraph 1: General Provisions: The superintendent may recommend extended leave for any purpose. In making such recommendations, the superintendent will consider the available replacements and potential benefits to the district, as well as the nature of the request. All recommendations for extended leave must be submitted to the Board for final determination and shall state beginning and ending dates, when possible.

Extended Leaves. In addition to other approved leave programs; there shall be an extended leave program at University of Washington Medical Center. The program shall provide for three to five registered nurses to be eligible for a leave of absence not to exceed six months following completion of four years of unbroken service as an RN at UWMC. Participants in the program shall use vacation, holiday or compensatory leave as a portion of the requested leave. The Conference Committee shall participate in the development of criteria by which the program will be administered and evaluated for possible continuation.
Extended Leaves. Extended leaves of absence of at least three (3) but not more than five (5) years may be granted in accordance with Minnesota Statutes § 136F.
Extended Leaves. Extended Leaves may be requested in writing by parents who are on or will be on a Parental Leave. These are leaves that continue beyond the statutory Parental Leave period and may be granted by the Executive Superintendent of Human Resource Services or designate on the basis of the mutual consent of the employee and employer but shall not extend beyond the end of the school year.
Extended Leaves. A. Unless otherwise indicated, the following conditions shall apply to all extended leaves of absence: 1. Requests for leaves shall be in writing and must be received by the Superintendent not later than four (4) calendar months before the requested leave is anticipated to begin. An exception to this time limit may be allowed by the Board in the event of an emergency. 2. Eligibility shall be based on a minimum of two (2) years continuous employment in the district. 3. All extended leaves shall be limited up to one year. Further extensions may be granted by the Board. 4. Salary increment shall not accrue. 5. Sick leave days shall not accrue but unused sick leave days held at the start of the leave shall be reinstated. 6. Upon the Board's approval of a teacher's application for an extended leave, the Board shall also establish the beginning date of the leave and its duration. 7. Written notice of intention to either return or resign from extended leave shall be given to the Superintendent of Schools by March 1 of the year in which the leave expires, or sixty (60) days prior to the leave's termination date, whichever is sooner. Failure to comply with the above paragraph shall be interpreted as job abandonment and termination of employment. 8. Re-employment will be to a position for which the returning teacher is qualified and certified to teach. If no vacancy exists, the Board reserves the right to implement the layoff procedure. B. Any teacher whose personal illness extends beyond the period compensated may be granted a leave of absence without pay or increment for such time as is necessary for complete recovery up to a maximum of one year. Further extensions may be granted at the will of the Board. C. A leave of absence for up to one year may be granted without pay for study related to the teacher's licensed field or his professional growth. D. A leave of absence may be granted, without pay, for the purpose of infant care or maternity. E. A leave of absence shall be granted a tenure teacher who is inducted or enlists for one period of enlistment in any branch of the Armed Forces of the United States. Reinstatement upon completion of such service shall be in accordance with applicable laws. Regular salary increments shall accrue to a maximum of two (2) years. F. Pursuant to the Family and Medical Leave Act effective 1993, an employee who has been employed at least twelve months and worked at least 1,250 hours during the prior twelve month period is entitled ...
Extended Leaves. 25.1 The Board may grant non-probationary teachers, upon application, a professional leave of absence without pay for up to one (1) academic year; to serve full time in the Peace Corps, Vista or for a recognized charitable organization; to serve full-time as an exchange or overseas teacher; to return to school as a full- time student; to teach full-time at an accredited college or university; or for full-time updating of vocational proficiency for certificate renewal, or the improving of skills related to the current vocational teaching assignment. Such leave may not be extended. 25.2 In the event a teacher seeks a professional leave which requires a commitment of more than one (1) academic year, the teacher, upon initial application for such leave, shall provide to the District acceptable documentary evidence which specifies the time required. Such evidence must be issued by the authorizing agency or institution involved with the applicant’s leave. Any leave request requiring more than two (2) academic years shall not be considered. 25.3 The Board may grant non-probationary teachers, upon application, a medical leave of absence without pay for restoration of the health of the teacher, the teacher’s spouse, or the teacher’s child, for up to one (1) academic year. Such leave may not be extended. 25.4 The Board may grant non-probationary teachers, upon application, an unpaid leave of absence for personal reasons for up to one (1) academic year. Such leave may not be extended. 25.5 The Board shall not arbitrarily, capriciously or unreasonably deny applications for the types of extended leaves described in this Article 25. 25.6 A teacher granted an extended leave may return to employment by the District on the salary schedule at the position earned when such leave was granted, on the condition that the teacher gives the District written notification by March 1 of intent to return from such leave; provided, however, that those teachers who, while on professional leave, were engaged in full-time teaching or vocational proficiency, will be granted if otherwise eligible, one (1) experience increment for such year. 25.7 During the period of an extended leave, a teacher shall, if eligible, have the option of maintaining coverage under the District’s own group insurance plans described in Article 33 at the teacher’s own expense.
Extended Leaves. Where the nature of the leave is such that it is sufficiently frequent or extensive that the employee requires a release from a teaching assignment the Union will: (i) provide a minimum of sixty (60) days notice to the unit administrator with a copy to Human Resources, (ii) ensure that the leave request will be for a minimum of one complete teaching assignment (for example, one section of a course for one term) and in additional increments of not less than one complete assignment. On receipt of the leave request, the unit administrator will take reasonable steps to find a suitable replacement. This may require that the vacancy be filled without posting. Where a qualified replacement is found, the Union will reimburse the unit for all of the replacement costs incurred (salary and benefits). The employee replacing the employee on leave shall be entitled to salary and benefits as provided for in this agreement. The University will provide, only to the employee on leave, the benefits of Articles 9, 16 and 24 (salary, benefits, job security and status) under this Master agreement and the TA, Non-Student, ELC and Cultural Assistant Appendices as if he or she had completed the teaching assignment(s). In no case shall the union leave provide an additional salary or benefit improvement under this agreement other than what that employee would have accrued if he or she had performed the work. The granting of an extended leave should not act so as to reduce a probationary or qualifying period.
