Pre-Approval. Application for reimbursement shall be prepared on a form provided by the SFMTA Department of Human Resources. Courses require pre-approval by the Appointing Officer (or designee) and the SFMTA Human Resources Department, neither of which shall be unreasonably denied. Such application for tuition reimbursement shall be made prior to the date of enrollment in the course and, if approved by the Appointing Officer (or designee) and the SFMTA Human Resources Department, reimbursement shall be subject to successful completion of the course. No reimbursement shall be made if the employee is eligible to receive reimbursement for said tuition under a Federal or State Veterans benefit program from other public funds.

Approval for professional development activities that take place during the employee’s normal work day shall be at the sole discretion of the Superintendent or designee with recommendation from the employee’s supervisor.
