PROCEDURE TO ESTABLISH. Employees may be verbally detailed, for periods up to 30 days, under conditions authorized by applicable regulations. No official written notice need be given, except that the supervisor or designee will discuss with the selected employee, the reasons for the action, nature of duties and responsibilities to be performed and the approximate or proposed length of the detail. When a detail assigns an employee to duties other than his/her official job description for over 30 day, but not more than 120 days, an SF-50 will be prepared. The Employer agrees that employees should be paid consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the position to which he/she is placed. Therefore, supervisors or designee will consider temporary promotion of employees detailed into higher graded unit positions where it is reasonably expected that the detail will exceed 60 days. While there are circumstances that may require continuing detailing of an employee, supervisors or designee will not ordinarily repeatedly detail an employee nor use details as a means of reprisal. When a detail is to an established position of higher grade for a period of over 120 calendar days, and when temporary promotion is determined to be feasible, the competitive provisions of the Air Force Merit Promotion Plan will apply.
