Professional Leave of Absence. An unpaid leave of absence of up to one year may be granted to a member upon application for the purpose of advanced study, work experience in their field or in other areas. The Employer may extend such leave beyond the one-year limit if it so desires. Requests for such leave shall be made no later than 90 days prior to the commencing day of the leave. For leaves of absence less than one year, benefits will be prorated based on time worked. No leave time will be deducted. A leave of absence without pay shall be granted to a full-time or part-time member who has completed the probationary period, for purposes of seeking or filling an elective or appointive public office, provided the member’s activities do not violate applicable law or ethical standards, and provided a request for such leave must be submitted at least three months prior to the requested commencement date. Seniority and other benefits shall be frozen and shall not accumulate during the period of any such leave.
