Sabbatical Leave. Sabbatical leaves of absence will be granted to tenured full-time faculty members (including department chairpersons) in accordance with the following provisions: 1. Faculty members become eligible for a sabbatical leave upon completion of six (6) years of full-time employment at Xxxxxx Valley Community College. Applications for a sabbatical leave may be filed during the sixth (6th) year of employment and thereafter, to be effective, if granted, the following academic year. Faculty who have previously been granted a sabbatical leave under these qualifications must complete a minimum of an additional six (6) years of full-time employment at Xxxxxx Valley Community College from the date of return from their last sabbatical leave in order to be eligible for a subsequent sabbatical leave. Notwithstanding the above, in instances where the number of recommended applications for sabbatical leaves is less than the number of available leaves, the committee may, in its discretion, consider applications from prior sabbaticants who have complied with the provisions of paragraph 9 hereof. 2. Sabbatical leave may be granted for one (1) semester at full salary, two (2) semesters at half salary or two (2) semesters at full salary. The salary so paid shall not be reduced by any grant or fellowship received by the applicant. 3. The total number of sabbatical leaves granted per College year shall be subject to budget limitations; however, there shall not be more than four (4) at full salary during each year of the Agreement. 4. Completed sabbatical leave application forms for leaves to be effective for one or both semesters in the upcoming academic year shall be submitted to the President of the College by 5:00 p.m. on the last faculty work day in the month of January. 5. As part of the application for sabbatical leave, the applicant shall clearly indicate the purpose of the leave and, if the leave is for study, the name of the institution and the identity of the study and courses to be pursued and their relationship to the applicant's professional position. Applications for leave for travel or educational experience (limited to one [1] semester) shall state the specific educational objective in direct relation to the applicant's field of endeavor. Should a sabbatical leave be granted, any subsequent change from that as stated in the application shall require written notification to, and approval by the President. 6. The sabbatical recipients and the terms of their leaves shall be determined by a committee composed of five (5) representatives of the tenured faculty, two (2) representatives of the department chairpersons and three (3) representatives of the administration. A department chair may not serve on the committee if a member of his/her department is an applicant; a faculty member may not serve on the committee if his/her department chair is an applicant. An applicant may not be a member of the committee. Committee determinations are subject to the approval of the President of the College and the Board of Trustees. 7. Sabbatical leave recipients remain employees of the College and their salary shall be subject to the normal deductions for social security, income taxes, health insurance and other deductions. Upon return from sabbatical leave the recipient will be restored to the position to which entitled (or a comparable position) at a salary equal to that he/she would have received had he/she been in regular attendance at the College during the period of the sabbatical leave, less, however, the pro rata of all leave credits based on the duration of the sabbatical leave. 8. Upon return from sabbatical leave, the recipient will, within sixty (60) days, unless extended by the President, submit to the President a detailed report inclusive of appropriate records and data relative to such leave. 9. Following sabbatical leave the recipient is expected to return and complete two (2) years of service in the event of one (1) year's sabbatical leave; one (1) year's service in the event of one-half (1/2) year sabbatical leave. The College may require as a condition precedent to the granting of a sabbatical leave the execution of instruments to secure the repayment of salary received when on sabbatical leave in the event of the failure of the recipient to return and complete such service. 10. Before reviewing applications, the Sabbatical Leave Committee shall establish guidelines and criteria for its operations and publish the same. Within forty (40) faculty working days following the final submission date for sabbatical leave applications, the Committee will communicate in writing to each applicant its determination of his/her application; an applicant not recommended for sabbatical leave shall be granted an opportunity to meet with the representatives of the Committee to review the Committee's determination on his/her application and the reasons therefore. 11. The determinations of the Sabbatical Leave Committee shall be grievable only as follows: a) The aggrieved shall have the burden of proof in all cases. b) The sole grounds for a grievance will be that the actions of the Committee were arbitrary or capricious. c) Grievances will be submitted at the second stage within five (5) faculty working days following receipt of the Committee's determination.

Sabbatical Leave. Sabbatical leaves 1. Leave of absence at 50% pay may, at the District's discretion, be granted to contract employees by the Board upon recommendation of the Superintendent for the following reasons: a. Approved study. b. Approved travel. c. Approved teaching positions outside the United States or teaching of a specific nature within the United States. 2. In order to receive favorable consideration by the Superintendent and Board the following conditions must be met: a. Request for professional leave must be submitted in writing to the Superintendent on or before April 1, of the school year previous to the school year for which the leave is requested. b. The applicant must have been performing the duties in a completely satisfactory manner prior to the applicant’s request. c. A satisfactory replacement must be available for employment for the time that the employee is absent. 3. An employee returning to the District after a year of sabbatical leave will be granted an increment of salary under the following conditions: a. Approved study - If an employee has successfully completed the requirements for a Master's Degree or has successfully completed enough additional quarter hours to tenured full-time faculty members (including department chairpersons) make the employee eligible for a salary increase in accordance with the following provisions:requirements of the salary schedule then in use. 1. Sabbatical Leave. Sabbatical leaves may be granted in accordance with Section 24-6.1 of absence the Illinois School Code. The purpose of this clause is to contribute to the improvement of the quality of education in the schools of this District by aiding individual professional development through the granting of sabbatical leave time. Inasmuch as leaves will be granted only for those activities deemed beneficial to tenured full-time faculty members (including department chairpersons) the program of the system, except as provided in accordance with subsection I. hereof, a partial payment of salary during the leave period is considered reasonable and justifiable under the following provisions:conditions. 1A. Application for sabbatical leave may be made by any certificated person who will have completed six (6) continuous years of employment in this District prior to the commencement of the leave. Faculty members become eligible Such leave shall be for a period of at least four (4) school months, but not in excess of one (1) school term. A second sabbatical leave upon completion of may be granted only if the applicant has completed six (6) years of full-time employment at Xxxxxx Valley Community Collegesatisfactory service since his/her last sabbatical. B. The application should reach the office of the Superintendent not later than ninety (90) days before the leave period is to begin. Each application will be evaluated by the Superintendent and such other persons as he/she may desire to involve in the decision, on the basis of its merits and its value to the school system. Certain limiting factors, such as the availability of suitable substitutes and of budget funds, must also be considered in each case. C. Applications for sabbatical leaves may be submitted for any of the following reasons or any combination of these reasons: 1. Training - This must be resident study. The equivalent of twelve semester hours per semester of college level coursework is a minimum. 2. Planned program of professional development - research, writing, similar activities. 3. Travel - a planned program of educational travel having a direct relationship to the individual's assignment within the system. 4. Other purposes which, in the opinion of the Superintendent and the Board of Education, are designed to improve the school system. D. The employee shall submit evidence of professional development at the conclusion of the sabbatical leave period. This may be in the form of written reports, course credit, certification of performance or other means as recommended and approved by the Superintendent. E. The employee shall receive the same scheduled salary (excluding stipends, if any) during the leave period as if in actual service, except that there shall be deducted therefrom an amount equivalent to the amount payable for substitute service. However, such salary after deduction for substitute service shall in no case be less than the minimum provided by Section 24-8 of the Illinois School Code or one-half of the basic salary, whichever is greater. F. The person on leave shall not engage in any activity for which salary or compensation is paid unless the activity is directly related to the purpose for which the leave is granted and is approved by the Board. A sabbatical leave may be filed during granted to enable the sixth (6th) year of employment and thereafterapplicant, if otherwise eligible, to accept scholarships for study or research. Unless justified by illness or incapacity, failure of any person granted a leave under this section to devote the entire period to the purposes for which the leave was granted, shall constitute a cause for removal from teaching service. G. The sabbatical leave period shall be effectivecounted as equivalent to teaching service and credit allowed for salary determination purposes. X. Sabbatical Leave. ‌‌ Full-time teachers shall be granted Sabbatical leaves Leave for study, research towards a degree, or publication in areas of absence their specialization, such leave to be granted by the Board, at its discretion, where the same will be beneficial to the school system of Xxxxxxxxxx Township. Final approval of the applicant for Sabbatical Leave will be made by the Board of Education and the Superintendent. A. Only one teacher may be granted a Sabbatical Leave at any one time. B. A statement of intent to apply for a Sabbatical Leave must be filed by December 1st; the application for a Sabbatical Leave must be submitted before February 1st and processed no later than April 1st. C. A teacher must complete seven (7) continuous years of satisfactory teaching in this district. D. A teacher will receive half-pay for a full-year of Sabbatical Leave. If by April 1st no teacher has been granted a Sabbatical Leave, the time limit in Paragraph B for application for Sabbatical Leave may be extended by the Board until May 1st for the sole purpose of permitting application for such leave by any teacher who has been accepted as a full time participant for a government sponsored institute for the following school year. H. Each teacher who is on Sabbatical Leave shall notify the Superintendent in writing by March 15th of the year of leave whether such teacher intends to return to active duty the following year. I. Sabbatical Leave. Sabbatical Leave. The Board recognizes that a superior educational system and a program of instruction that meets the needs of all students can only be achieved by providing for continual improvement of the professional staff. Sabbatical leave is given to professional personnel to permit them to improve their ability to render educational service. Such improvement is usually achieved by formal study, research and/or writing and travel. Applications for sabbatical leave for other types of experiences shall be considered on their merits and may be approved by the Board upon the recommendation of the Superintendent. a. A certificated/licensed employee may apply for sabbatical leave subject to the following conditions and requirements: 1. Applicant must have five (5) consecutive years of satisfactory service as a full- time employee in the Shaker Heights City School District. Military leaves shall not be interpreted as interrupted service. 2. Any member of the bargaining unit who is on continuing status shall be eligible to apply for Sabbatical leaves Leave after seven (7) years of absence satisfactory service with the St. Lucie County School Board. Sabbatical Leave. 11:01 This program is established for the purpose of offering Teachers an opportunity for approved study or research including travel. 11:02 Granting of Sabbatical leaves of absence will Leave: (a) Sabbatical Leave may be granted to tenured full-time faculty members (including department chairpersons) in accordance with Teachers on application to the following provisions: 1. Faculty members become eligible for a sabbatical leave upon completion of six (6) years of full-time employment at Xxxxxx Valley Community College. Completed sabbatical leave Such application forms for leaves to be effective for one or both semesters in the upcoming academic year shall be submitted to the President Director by January 15 prior to the September in which the Sabbatical Leave would commence. 11:03 The Board shall pay Teachers on Sabbatical Leave 66 2/3% of their salary. 11:04 Pension deductions are to be continued as provided by the College by 5:00 p.m. on Teachers' Pension Act. 11:05 Personnel granted Sabbatical Leave are to be eligible, upon their return to duties, to receive any increment or any increase in salary resulting from a revised schedule that they would have received had they not taken Sabbatical Leave. 11:06 The period of leave shall not exceed one school year. 11:07 A Teacher granted Sabbatical Leave for one full year shall sign a commitment to return to the last faculty work day Board for a period of three (3) years. If the Teacher leaves before fulfilling this commitment, that Teacher shall reimburse the Board an amount equal to the salary paid during the Sabbatical. Partial refunds shall be in the month of Januaryratio that unworked months bear to this three-year period. 5. Sabbatical Leave. Sabbatical leaves may be granted in accordance with Section 24-6.1 of absence the Illinois School Code. The purpose of this clause is to contribute to the improvement of the quality of education in the schools of this District by aiding individual professional development through the granting of sabbatical leave time. Inasmuch as leaves will be granted only for those activities deemed beneficial to tenured full-time faculty members (including department chairpersons) the program of the system, except as provided in accordance with subsection I. hereof, a partial payment of salary during the leave period is considered reasonable and justifiable under the following provisions:conditions. 1A. Application for sabbatical leave may be made by any certificated person who will have completed six (6) continuous years of employment in this District prior to the commencement of the leave. Faculty members become eligible Such leave shall be for a period of at least four (4) school months, but not in excess of one (1) school term. B. The application should reach the office of the Superintendent not later than ninety (90) days before the leave period is to begin. Each application will be evaluated by the Superintendent and such other persons as he/she may desire to involve in the decision, on the basis of its merits and its value to the school system. Certain limiting factors, such as the availability of suitable substitutes and of budget funds, must also be considered in each case. C. Applications for sabbatical leaves may be submitted for any of the following reasons or any combination of these reasons: 1. Training - This must be resident study. The equivalent of twelve semester hours per semester of college level coursework is a minimum. 2. Planned program of professional development - research, writing, similar activities. 3. Travel - a planned program of educational travel having a direct relationship to the individual's assignment within the system. 4. Other purposes which, in the opinion of the Superintendent and the Board of Education, are designed to improve the school system. D. The employee shall submit evidence of professional development at the conclusion of the sabbatical leave period. This may be in the form of written reports, course credit, certification of performance or other means as recommended and approved by the Superintendent. E. The employee shall receive the same scheduled salary (excluding stipends, if any) during the leave period as if in actual service, except that there shall be deducted therefrom an amount equivalent to the amount payable for substitute service. However, such salary after deduction for substitute service shall in no case be less than the minimum provided by Section 24-8 of the Illinois School Code or one-half of the basic salary, whichever is greater. F. The person on leave shall not engage in any activity for which salary or compensation is paid unless the activity is directly related to the purpose for which the leave is granted and is approved by the Board. If the Board approves the leave request, the employee shall sign an agreement to return to service upon completion of the leave for a period equal to twice the period of leave and a written authorization to deduct from the employee's salary all amounts paid to or on behalf of the employee during his/her sabbatical leave should the employee fail to submit the agreed upon transcripts and/or reports upon completion of the sabbatical leave. The College may require Compensation shall be paid the employee as a condition precedent to if the granting employee were teaching in the District upon presentation of a sabbatical leave bond indemnifying the execution of instruments to secure the repayment of salary received when on sabbatical leave Board against loss in the event the employee fails to render the service following return from leave.
