Administrators Sabbatical fellowships are granted at the sole discretion of the Board to no more than one (1) employee per year, and are designed to encourage the improvement of instruction, supervision, and administration and to provide enrichment of the educational program in the Henniker School system. Teachers who have been employed demonstrated a commitment to the school may apply for a fellowship upon completion of eight (8) years’ service in the Okemos Public Schools Henniker. There may be up 5M04 Unpaid leaves of absence do not count toward years of service when determining entitlement for sabbatical, but they do not break continuity of service to two (2) Administrators the College. 5M05 Faculty eligible for sabbatical leave each must indicate their intention to take such leave in writing to the FDCC with copies to the Department Chair, by October 15th of the year preceding the sabbatical leave. The notice of intent will be accompanied by a statement of a definitive plan of study, research or other professional activity. 5M06 Faculty members may elect to take one semester of sabbatical leave at full pay or two consecutive semesters at two-thirds pay. It is understood that either form of leave shall be counted as one sabbatical leave for purposes of eligibility as outlined in 5M01. 5M07 Sabbaticals for Faculty Librarians shall be for six months or one year. 5M08 Faculty members on sabbatical leave will continue to receive all regular benefits as outlined in the items under Article 5 of this document. 5M09 It is understood that in cases where concurrent sabbatical leaves might jeopardize the quality of the academic program, the FDCC, in consultation with appropriate faculty, shall determine a solution and inform the CAO and the faculty involved. 5M10 The FDCC is empowered to grant sabbatical leaves not exceeding 12.5% of the full- time faculty in the School/Division/Library in any given year. Additional sabbaticals in excess of the 12.5% up to a maximum of 15% of the full-time faculty in any given year may be granted but only with the approval of the CAO and the President. A determination of which applications fall within the first 12.5% will be based on the following: first priority will be given to those faculty members who have not previously had a sabbatical leave; second priority to those faculty members who though eligible were denied or did not take a sabbatical leave; and the remaining application will be selected by lottery. 5M11 A member who is awarded a sabbatical must upon its conclusion submit a report describing the activity undertaken and the benefits derived. This report will be submitted to the Chair of the FDCC with a copy to the Xxxx and XXX. The XXX’x copy of this report, as well as the member's application, will be made part of the member's personnel file. 5M12 If a faculty member while on sabbatical leave accepts regular full-time employment at another institution not included in his/her plan for sabbatical leave, the College is under no obligation to pay any part of his/her sabbatical salary. This does not guarantee any particular number apply to faculty members accepting funds for the support of sabbatical leaves. Requests for sabbatical leave will be considered only for a full semester or a full year and shall not exceed two (2) semesters. Should the accomplishments achieved during President disallow the leave and showing how these accomplishments related to the betterment recommendation of the school districtFDCC, he/she shall advise the FDCC in writing of his/her reason for doing so, addressing directly the merits of the proposal. Sabbatical Leave. Administrators who have been employed The Board may grant a sabbatical to teachers performing contractual service for a period of at least four (4) school months, but not in excess of one (1) school term, for resident study, research and other purposes designed to improve the Okemos Public Schools for seven (7) consecutive years school system. The grant of a sabbatical leave by the Board shall constitute a finding that the leave is deemed to benefit the school system by improving the quality and level of experience of the teaching force. The leave may be granted after completion of at least six (6) years of satisfactory service as a sabbatical full‐time teacher and may again be granted after completion of a subsequent period of six (6) years of such service. A leave upon request. Application should be made with the Superintendent in February for a leave beginning the following school year. An Administrator returning from sabbatical Before a leave must submit a written statement within forty-five (45) calendar days after is granted, the conclusion of the leave to the Board of Education indicating the accomplishments achieved during the leave and showing how these accomplishments related to the betterment of the school district. Providing the leave does not exceed one school year, an Administrator, upon return from sabbatical leave, will be restored to the former position, applicant shall agree in writing that if available, and if not, to a comparable position or to a position that is mutually agreed upon for which the individual is qualified. In computing service to determine the Administrator's salary at the expiration of leavesuch leave he/she does not return to perform contractual continued service in the District for a least one (1) school year after his/her return, time spent on all sums of money received from the Board during his/her sabbatical leave will be counted returned to the Board, unless such return and performance is prevented by illness or incapacity. During absence pursuant to such leave, such teacher shall receive the same basic salary as active if in actual service, except that there may be deducted there from an amount equivalent to the amount payable for substitute service. However, such salary, after deduction for substitute service, shall in no case be less than the minimum provided by Section 24‐8 of the School Code or one‐half (1/2) of the basic salary, whichever is greater. The person on leave shall not engage in any activity for which salary or compensation is paid unless the activity is directly related to the purpose for which the leave is granted and is approved by the Board. A sabbatical leave may be granted to enable the applicant, if otherwise eligible, to accept scholarships for study or research. Unless justified by illness or incapacity, failure of any person granted a leave under this section to devote the entire period to the purposes for which the leave was granted shall constitute a cause for removal from teaching service. Upon expiration of a leave granted pursuant to this section and upon presentation of evidence satisfactory to the Board showing compliance with the conditions of the leave, the teacher shall be returned to a position equivalent to that formerly occupied. The contractual continued service status of the person on sabbatical leave shall not be affected. Absence during a leave granted pursuant to this section shall not be construed as a discontinuance of service for any purpose, including progression on the salary schedule, if one is in effect in the Okemos School District. The Board shall pay the contribution to the Teachers' Retirement System required of the person on leave, computed on the annual full‐ time salary rate under which the member last received earnings immediately prior to the leave, or proportionate part of such rate for a partial year of sabbatical leave credit. The Board shall impose the limitation of not more than one (1) member of the faculty, being granted sabbatical leave at any given time. Any teacher desiring to make application for a sabbatical leave must notify the Board in writing of his/her intent to apply for a sabbatical leave no later than February I of the preceding school year in which the sabbatical leave is requested The application must state how long the applicant will be on leave and how this leave will improve the applicants quality and level of teaching.
