Common use of Salary on Voluntary Demotion Clause in Contracts

Salary on Voluntary Demotion. At the discretion of the City Manager, any employee who elects to take a voluntary demotion may be placed at a lower step, or may be placed at a step in a lower range or may be placed at Step "Y" which is equal to the employee's current salary step. The employee's merit review date shall not change. An employee receiving Step "Y" shall remain in the Step "Y" until such time as the position is assigned to a salary range in which the highest merit increase step is equivalent to or higher than the Step "Y" at which time the employee shall be placed in the next higher merit increase step. Such employee shall not receive salary adjustments until such time as Step "Y" is equivalent to or less than the highest step of the salary range of the employee's position.
