Short-Term Compassionate or Emergency Leave. The University will grant compassionate care leave of up to a maximum of eight (8) weeks to employees who take a leave of absence under the Family Medical Leave provisions of the Employment Standards Act (ESA). This leave may be further extended beyond the initial eighteight (8) week period in accord- ance with ESA. For employees with one (1) year of service or more, the University will pay the equivalent of the max- imum possible weekly Employment Insurance benefit during the two (2) week waiting period provided that the employee applies for and receives Employment Insurance benefits.
