Personal Emergency Leave. 1. A teacher will be granted up to five (5) days of leave per year to cover situations beyond the control of the teacher which would significantly impair teaching service. Personal emergency leave may not be used for illness/injury, or illness/injury in the immediate family. Deductions from the gross pay of a teacher for this leave shall be made at the degreed substitute rate of pay for each day taken.
2. A teacher may be granted up to five (5) days leave without pay for business and/or personal reasons having unusual circumstances.
Personal Emergency Leave. 19.11.3.1 In accordance with the Employment Standards Act, the University agrees to grant a leave of absence without pay for up to ten (10) days per calendar year to a faculty member because of a personal illness, injury or medical emergency, or the death, illness, injury or medical or other emergency of a family member. Such family member shall be defined as the employee’s: Spouse (includes common-law spouse and same-sex partner); Brother or Sister; the Parent, Step-Parent, Xxxxxx Parent, or the Child, Step-Child or Xxxxxx Child of the employee or his/her Spouse; the Grandparent, Step-Grandparent, Grandchild, or Step- Grandchild of the employee of his/her Spouse; or a relative of the employee who is dependent on the employee for care and assistance. In the event a faculty member takes any part of a day as personal emergency leave, it shall be counted as a full day for the purpose of calculating the total leave entitlement. Documentation (medical or otherwise) may be required to substantiate such leave. Faculty members should provide their Associate Xxxx or designate with as much advance notice as is practicable regarding a request for personal emergency leave.
Personal Emergency Leave. A. Subject to the conditions set forth herein, employees shall be eligible to receive up to four (4) days of Personal/Emergency leave from July 1 to June 30 of each year, to be compensated at the employee's regular hourly rate of base compensation for each regular work hour off work on approved leave.
(1) Emergency leave shall be for a minimum of one (1) hour increments and must be for a justifiable reason. Emergencies shall include the following:
a. Accidents in the immediate family, i.e., father, mother, child, or current spouse of employee.
b. Road conditions making it impossible to report for work. (Every effort should be expended to report for work, even though the hour may be late.)
c. Disaster affecting employee's own family or family property. For purposes of this provision, the term "family" is limited to the employee, employee's current spouse, or dependent of employee residing in the household of the employee. For purposes of this provision, a "disaster" shall be defined as "a sudden, unexpected and unanticipated calamity, which produces material damage, loss and distress." Examples of a calamity include but are not limited to a flood causing damage to the residence of the employee, a fire in the residence of the employee, a tornado causing damage to the residence of the employee.
d. Other reasons as approved by the SUPERINTENDENT'S designee.
(2) Personal leave shall be granted to employees who submit an application for such leave at least two (2) work days in advance of the day desired off to the SUPERINTENDENT'S designee. Such an application shall be submitted through the employee's immediate supervisor, and such supervisor shall indicate on the application his/her recommendation regarding the application. Such application must indicate that personal leave is taken in one-half (1/2) or one (1) day segments.
(3) In determining whether or not to approve any application for personal/emergency leave, the SUPERINTENDENT'S designee shall consider the recommendation of the employee's immediate supervisor. Such recommendation shall be based on the effect the absence of the employee will have on the efficient operation of the work regularly performed by the employee. Such leave shall not be unreasonably denied.
B. With the exception of one (1) personal leave day, personal leave may not be taken:
(1) On the last work day before or the first work day after any holiday or professional day.

Personal Emergency Leave a. Unit members may be granted a personal emergency leave of absence with pay for not more than five (5) days upon the recommendation of the Superintendent or designee and the approval of the Board of Education.
b. Personal emergency leave shall not be used for such reasons as: extension of a personal vacation or social event; a convention related to the employee's avocation.
Personal Emergency Leave. Each teacher shall receive three days of personal leave with pay per year. The leave shall be available upon request with no questions asked, except that personal leave days that adjoin a holiday or vacation period must be prearranged to ensure continuity for student instruction, by written submission at least ten working days in advance of the commencement date of the leave and shall contain a statement that a substitute has been requested. Appropriate instructional plans for the substitute shall be available. In the event of an emergency, advance notice is not required. Holidays and vacations shall be defined as Memorial Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving, winter, spring, and summer vacations.
1. When possible, the teacher shall provide the District with 48 hours notice in advance of his/her intention to take leave.
2. Leave shall not be granted if a substitute is not available. It is not the intent of the District to allow the difficulty of retaining substitutes for difficult-to-replace positions to result in discrimination against those teachers in the taking of personal leave.
3. This leave is to be taken in full-day increments, except that one day may be taken in half-day increments. At the end of the school year, each teacher shall be paid, in addition to his/her other pay, an amount equal to 85 percent of the licensed substitute daily rate each of the three days not used during the year. Teachers who work less than full time shall receive time off and the year-end cash on a prorated basis based upon the relationship their regular work schedule bears to that of a full-time teacher. Personal/emergency leave shall be earned according to the following schedule, but granted at the beginning of each school year based on contract days expected to work: 30-63 days on active duty 1 day 64-126 days on active duty 1 day 127-190 days on active duty 1 day If an employee leaves the District after using such leave without earning it, the District shall be reimbursed at the amount of salary paid for any such leave time taken but not earned. All personal/emergency leave must be used before any unpaid leave can be taken.
Personal Emergency Leave. (a) Employees shall be granted up to five (5) days leave with pay per year for significant personal reasons, such leave to be granted on approval by the Secretary-Treasurer and such approval will not be withheld unreasonably.
(b) Outer Island employees shall be granted one additional day leave of absence for personal business off-island.
Personal Emergency Leave. An employee shall be granted up to one (1) full working day with pay each year to deal with a personal emergency, upon immediately notifying the department head. Such leave will not be charged to other accrued time off.
Personal Emergency Leave. In accordance with the Employment Standards Act, an employee is entitled to a leave of absence without pay for the following reasons:
(a) Death, illness, injury or medical emergency of an immediate family member; or
(b) An urgent matter that concerns an immediate family member. An employee is entitled to take a total of ten (10) days personal emergency leave in each calendar year.
Personal Emergency Leave. A. A unit member may be granted a maximum of six (6) days leave of absence in any college year, at his/her election, without loss of pay, in cases of personal emergency. Such leave shall be deducted from the unit member's accumulated sick leave.
B. Personal emergencies include serious illness or death of a member of his/her immediate family; an accident involving his/her person or property or the person or property of a member of his/her immediate family; appearance in court as a litigant or as a witness under an official order.
C. Immediate family" will be interpreted to mean the mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, or grandchild of the unit member or of the spouse of the unit member, and the spouse, son, son-in-law, daughter, daughter-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, or any relative living in the immediate household of the unit member, or step-mother, step-father, step-daughter, or step-son.
D. Two (2) of the six (6) days may be granted for any reason deemed appropriate by the member and with prior approval of the supervisor, and in no case will there be more than two (2) employees off at any one time in any work unit under this paragraph.
E. Verification of personal emergency leave shall be made on the form approved by the District and signed by the unit member.
Personal Emergency Leave. A. Up to three (3) days of personal/emergency leave will be granted to each employee each work year with full pay.
1. Emergencies are defined as situations which cannot be dealt with outside of working hours which are suddenly precipitated or unplanned or where preparing could not relieve the necessity for the employee’s absence and which requires the employee to absent him/herself from his/her duties.
2. Personal leave is defined as leave for matters which require absence during work hours which can be planned/prepared for and where the nature of the business may not be dealt with at any other time. Personal leave may not be used to extend a vacation or holiday, for union business, or for personal illness if the employee has accrued sick leave.
3. If a substitute is required, the leave is usable in not less than one-half (½) day increments. If a substitute is not required, the leave is usable for a minimum of one hour.
4. Personal/emergency leave does not accumulate from year to year.
B. A request to the member’s supervisor for Personal Leave shall be given at least two (2) days in advance. The employee will be notified preferably within one (1) day, but no longer than two (2) days of the approval or denial of the request.
