Sick Leave - Full-Time Employees. 14.01 Sick leave is for the sole and only purpose of protecting an employee from loss of income when they are absent from work because of illness or accident not compensable under Workers’ Compensation. 14.02 After completion of 450 hours, each full-time employee shall be credited with 3 days (22.5 hours). 14.03 A full-time employee shall be credited with seven and one-half (7.5) hours for each one hundred and fifty (150) paid hours of employment to a total maximum accumulation of two hundred and twenty-five (225) hours. 14.04 An employee who is sick on a scheduled workday will be paid for the scheduled day missed, if sick leave credits are available, and such time will be deducted from her/his accumulated sick day credits. 14.05 A medical certificate from the employee’s physician (or nurse practitioner or midwife, in the context of the employee’s pregnancy) may be required when an employee is ill or injured and missed two (2) consecutive shifts of work, in situations where the Employer has reason to suspect abuse, or where a pattern of sick leave exists. The cost of such certificates shall be paid by the Employer. 14.06 Annually, the Employer shall advise each employee in writing of the amount of sick leave accrued to his/her credit. 14.07 An employee who will be absent on the afternoon or night shift due to personal illness must notify the Employer at least three (3) hours prior to the commencement of the shift unless impossible. An employee who will be absent on the day shift due to personal illness must notify the Employer at least two (2) hours prior to the commencement of the shift unless impossible. Late notice does not cause forfeiture of income protection.
