Sickness at Home. 21.6.1 An employer may grant an employee leave on pay as a charge against sick leave entitlement when the employee must stay at home to attend to a member of the household who through illness becomes dependent on the employee. This person would in most cases be the employee’s child or partner but may be another member of the employee’s family or household. 21.6.2 Approval is not to be given for absences during or in connection with the birth of an employee’s child. Such a situation should be covered by annual leave or paternity leave. 21.6.3 The production of a medical certificate or other evidence of illness may be required.
