Recovery Time. Services that operate a shift system or an after-hours’ call roster are expected to have agreed arrangements in place that allow an employee to have an adequate break without deduction from full pay before commencing work following periods of on call related work or shift work where the employee is too fatigued to safely undertake their next scheduled activity.

Recovery Time. For every hour (or partial hour) worked on call-out, call-back, phone and/or laptop response time or regular overtime during the eight (8) hour period immediately prior to the employee’s regular shift, the employee will be allowed to take the following day, an equivalent number of hours at their regular rate of pay, CITY-paid recovery time. Recovery time should normally be used at the beginning of the regular shift to ensure the employee has had adequate rest before working their normal shift.
Recovery Time. Where a service provides rostered on call weekend cover, there shall be agreed recovery time processes in place for where an individual RMO considers they are too fatigued from their weekend call backs to safely undertake their rostered Monday duties.

Scenario #2 – • 8:00-4:30 Day worker called in @ 1am • Works from 1:00 am until 7:00 am • Recovery Time – 6 hours • Employee option: return to work at 2:30pm – 4:30pm; paid full 8 hours straight time pay or employee takes 1 hour unpaid break and returns to work at 8:00am – 10:00am; paid full 8 hours straight time pay. Scenario #3 – • 7:00 – 5:00 Day worker 10-hour called in @ 1:00 am • Works from 1:00 am until 7:00 am • Recovery Time - 6 hours • Employee option: return to work at 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm; paid full 10 hours straight time pay or employee continues to work until 11:00 am and is paid full 10 hours straight time pay. Scenario #4 – • 8-4:30 Day worker called in @ 5:30am • Works from 5:30am until 8 am • Recovery Time - 0 hours
