Specialty Pay. 1) To be eligible for specialty pay as provided herein, the employee must be assigned to a specialty pay assignment by the Chief or the Chief’s designee. 2) Notwithstanding the foregoing, those employees assigned as Staff Fire Captains, Staff Fire Lieutenants, Harbor Master, Fire Fighter Specialists, Fire Battalion Chiefs (40‐hour), Fire Investigators, certified Fire Inspector Specialists, Special Hazards Inspector, Public Assembly Inspector, and Senior Inspector Specialists will receive six percent (6%) over the regular wage for the basic classification. 3) Members assigned as trainers to TAC and Station 2 will receive nine percent (9%) premium pay above the regular wage for the basic classification. This premium will continue for up to six (6) months, even during periods of hiatus between assignments of recruits. During periods of hiatus, members will be assigned a scope of work to be determined by management. 4) Personnel below the rank of Captain assigned as FPDR Liaison, Driver Instructor, Uniform & Equipment Officer, Fire Liaison assigned to BOEC, or Recruiter and work a 40‐hour week will be paid the same rate as Staff Fire Lieutenant. 5) Upon being promoted to a higher line classification, such employees will be placed at the entry rate for the new classification. However, should the promoted employee’s previous rate of pay, including premium pay, be higher than the entry rate for the new promotion class, the employee’s overall salary (base rate plus any applicable premiums) upon promotion shall be set at the lowest step which results in an actual pay increase. The employee will remain at that step until the employee has served sufficient time in grade to be eligible for a pay increase. 6) Fire Lieutenants assigned as an EMS Specialist will be placed on the step in the pay range for EMS Specialist which reflects their time in grade as a Fire Lieutenant. They shall retain their Fire Lieutenant anniversary date for future salary increases while assigned as EMS Specialist. 10.13.3 K-9 Dog Handlers shall receive 4.5% above Step #5 on the Deputies wage scale each month they are caring, grooming, feeding, exercising, and performing other related maintenance requirements of the dog assigned to them. This 4.5% represents eight hours of the dog handlers' regular rate of pay. The K-9 handlers regular rate of pay is inclusive of the current 3% per month received by each K-9 handler for up working/training their dog. In the event that extraordinary care (i.e. veterinarian attention or other non-routine or non- recurring attention) requires additional time to six (6) monthsbe spent on the dog outside the normal range and time or duties, even during periods of hiatus between assignments of recruitsthe officer must submit a time slip recording the extraordinary care. 10.13.4 Investigative Division Sergeants and Deputies assigned to the Investigative Division shall receive three percent (3%) above Step #5 on the Deputies wage scale, should the promoted employee’s previous rate of in addition to their regular pay, including premium for each month they are assigned to the Investigative Division. This added pay will cease if the member is reassigned from this Division.
10.13.5 Investigative Task Force To provide consistent pay amongst employees in Job Code 4029DS, Detective Corporal, effective January 1, 2019, Detective Corporals will no longer receive SP4 pay for the Investigative Task Force assignment (ITF). Instead, the salary range for Job Code 4029DS will be adjusted upwards from Grade 6TP to 6MK which reflects three percent (3%) above Step #5 on the Deputies wage scale. This added pay will cease if the member is reassigned from this task force.
10.13.6 Qualified Marine Enforcement Deputies shall receive three percent (3%) above Step #5 on the Deputies wage scale, in addition to their regular pay, be higher than for each month they are assigned to the entry rate for Marine Enforcement unit. This added pay will cease if the new promotion class, the employee’s overall salary (base rate plus any applicable premiums) upon promotion shall be set at the lowest step which results in an actual pay increase.
