Superior Duty Sample Clauses

Superior Duty. When management requires an employee to replace and substantially perform the duties of a higher-paid employee for a period of three (3) consecutive days or more, the employee shall receive the minimum step of the higher-paid position or a rate of pay equivalent to one (1) step higher than their present rate of pay – whichever is greater – for the entire period. When there is more than one (1) qualified employee, seniority will apply. To ensure an equitable distribution of superior duty opportunities amongst qualified employees, a qualified employee who formally exercises their seniority and receives the superior duty appointment shall not be permitted to again exercise their seniority rights for the next superior duty pay opportunity for which the employee is qualified. Superior duty pay opportunities shall be granted to employees within the work unit where the opportunity exists. If no qualified employee is present, consideration will be given to other qualified employees in the bargaining unit.
