Common use of Support of Committee Participation Clause in Contracts

Support of Committee Participation. In an effort to continue building an increasingly collegial labor management relationship, the Union and the Employer express solid support for employees to participate in contractual committees and projects of mutual benefit. The parties agree that employees participating on these committees/projects will be supported in attending the meetings, and management will make a good faith effort to release participants provided adequate advance notice is provided to the immediate supervisor by the employee or the Union. This may include exploring other staffing options (i.e. temporary staff, putting out request for coverage, building meeting absence into schedule, etc.). If a manager is unable to find coverage for a meeting, staff may choose to switch shifts. Managers shall facilitate switching shifts by communicating the request to the staff. Once the Union informs management of names of staff participants in contractual committees or other joint projects, management will immediately forward names of participants to the immediate supervisor to facilitate timely release.
