Temporary Assignment In Higher Grade Position. An employee assigned on a temporary or limited basis to a higher grade position shall receive the minimum of the higher grade position during such assignment unless his present rate of pay exceeds such minimum. Under such circumstances, the employee will be compensated in accordance with the procedure for promotion (Rule 3 above). This rule shall not be applicable in those instances where a temporary assignment is made as a result of either (1) one vacation period per calendar year (not to exceed three weeks) taken by another employee in a higher level position; or (2) the absence of any employee for a period of one workday or less.
