Common use of Temporary Assignment to a Higher Position Clause in Contracts

Temporary Assignment to a Higher Position. When an employee is temporarily assigned other responsibilities going substantially beyond the employee's normal level of responsibility for a period of two (2) weeks or more due to the absence of the incumbent of a higher-classified position, the employee will be paid a premium rate as set out below for the period of the assignment. The temporary increase will be to the lowest step in the range for the higher-classified position, which gives an increase of at least four per cent (4%) of the current salary to a maximum of ten per cent (10%). In the latter case, the temporary rate will be ten per cent (10%) above the employee's normal rate. The Union will be notified when acting assignments are expected to exceed three (3) months.
