Term of Leave. Maternity leave is for a term of up to seventeen (17) weeks with the first two (2) weeks paid as sick leave for employees not participating in Supplementary Unemployment Benefit (SUB) plan. For employees participating in the SUB plan, there are two (2) weeks of unpaid time in accordance with the Employment Insurance Act (1996, c.23, E-5.6 as amended). Leave may commence at the end of the seventh month of pregnancy. Following maternity leave, the employee may take unpaid leave of up to thirty-seven (37) weeks as parental leave.
