Weekend Worker. 27.1 Employees can be scheduled to work two 12-hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday. These employees shall have first option on weekend overtime work. 27.2 Premium pay as per the Collective Agreement shall apply. 27.3 Night shift premium shall apply to the 11:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m. shift. Afternoon shift premium shall apply to the 11:00 a.m. shift to 11:00 p.m. shift. 27.4 The Union may appoint: (a) one alternate Health and Safety Representative for each weekend shift. (b) one offshift Committeeperson for each regular weekend shift; (this does not apply to overtime shifts worked on the weekend). 27.5 In-week overtime shall be handled as follows: (a) partial shifts will be staffed with in-week workers. (b) full shifts can be staffed with weekend workers as follows: (i) Volunteers within the department and classification will be considered first, providing they have been off work a minimum of 12 hours. (ii) If there are insufficient, available volunteers, the most junior employees within the department and classification can be scheduled to work providing: A. there is a minimum of 12 hours’ notice. B. no more than one in-week shift can be required; any additional time worked shall be voluntary. (iii) Any work in excess of two in-week shifts shall be paid at the time and one-half premium, providing 40 hours have been worked, including the previous Saturday and Sunday. 27.6 Regarding benefits, the five-day waiting period for A & S shall be a Saturday and a Sunday. The benefit level shall be one-half of the regular weekly benefit for each Saturday or Sunday away from work due to illness. In case of accident, out-patient surgery, or hospitalization, employees will be eligible for one-half of the regular weekly benefit. Short Work Week Benefits will apply to the 24 hours worked for 40 hours of pay. For bereavement leave, weekend workers will get Sunday off with their normal premium pay. Weekend workers will not receive paid jury duty leave or paid subpoenaed crown witness leave in-week. If an employee does not work 1,000 hours in a year solely because he works the weekend schedule, he will be treated as if he worked 1,000 hours in a year for pension credit purposes.

Weekend Worker. 27.1 Employees can be scheduled to work The company may implement a Weekend Work Schedule in accordance with the following provisions:
1. This schedule would consist of either one (1) or two (2) twelve (12-) hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday.
a. Initially, vacancies on the weekend shift shall be filled by the most senior active employee(s) working in-week in the classification and department who volunteer for such vacancies, provided they have the skill and ability to perform the work in question. These If there are insufficient qualified employees who have volunteered to fill the vacancies, such vacancies will be posted and filled in accordance with the Job Posting Provision (Article 14). After the initial vacancies have been filled all subsequent vacancies shall be posted in accordance with Article 14.
b. Employees who either volunteer or bid for the weekend work schedule shall have first option on weekend overtime worka six (6) calendar week opportunity to opt back to their former position.
27.2 c. In-week and weekend workers may voluntarily switch schedules in accordance with the change of shift language in Schedule B.
d. In the event the program is discontinued, either temporarily or permanently, weekend workers will be returned to their department and classification provided they have seniority. In the event this causes surplus employees within the department and classification, the weekend worker shall not be declared surplus provided he/she has seniority.
e. In the event of the reinstatement of the program, employees holding previous rights still within the classification will have the option to be returned in seniority order and all other vacancies will be in accordance with section 2 (a).
3. Premium pay as per will be made in accordance with the Collective Agreement shall applycollective agreement. Cola will be paid on all hours paid (i.e.: Production workers, 42 hours; Skilled Trades workers, 44 hours).
27.3 Night shift premium shall apply to the 11:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m. shift4. Afternoon shift premium shall apply be paid for all hours paid on the 12 noon to 12 midnight shift. Night shift premium shall be paid for all hours paid after 12:00 midnight to 12 noon. In both cases the 11:00 a.m. shift to 11:00 p.m. shiftpremium shall not be paid for more than 40 hours.
27.4 5. The Union may appoint:union shall have the right to appoint pursuant to 6(d):
a. one (a1) one alternate Health and Safety Representative for each regular weekend shift.
(bb. Union Xxxxxxx(s) one offshift Committeeperson for each regular weekend shift; (this does not apply to overtime shifts worked on the weekendshift in accordance with Article 6(d).
27.5 In-6. In week overtime shall be handled as follows:
a. part shifts (aup to 4 hours) partial shifts will to be staffed with applied to in-week workers.
(b) full b. Full shifts can be staffed with applied to weekend workers as follows:
(i) Volunteers i. First consideration shall be given to volunteers within the department and classification will be considered first, providing they have there has been off work a minimum of 12 hourstwelve (12) hours off work.
ii. Each weekend worker can be offered a maximum of one (ii1) If shift of in-week overtime within his/her classification before in-week workers are asked.
iii. Weekend workers may then be asked to work any remaining unfilled overtime after in-week workers have been asked.
iv. In the event there are insufficient, available volunteers, the most junior employees within the department and classification can be scheduled to work providing:
A. Schedule B 3(e) shall apply, provided there is has been a minimum of 12 hours’ twelve (12) hours notice.
B. no more than one in-week shift can be required; any additional time worked shall be voluntary.
(iii) v. Any work in excess of two (2) in-week shifts shall be paid at the time and one-half premium, providing 40 forty (40) hours have been worked, worked including the previous Saturday and Sunday.
27.6 Regarding benefitsc. Required overtime on weekends, beyond the five-day waiting regular weekend work schedule, of two (2) hours or less will be offered to weekend workers. Overtime on weekends beyond the regular weekend work schedule, of more than two (2) hours will be offered in accordance with the normal overtime provisions.
d. The pay period for A & S overtime purposes for the weekend work schedule shall begin on Monday and end the following Sunday.
e. During the Christmas shutdown period overtime will be offered to employees in the department usually performing such work, irrespective of whether they are on the weekend shift.
7. Employees working this Weekend Work Schedule will not equalize overtime with employees working a Saturday and a SundayMonday through Friday schedule. The benefit level Weekend workers shall equalize among themselves.
8. Report In Pay – Report-In Pay will be one-half of ten (10) hours at the regular weekly benefit for each Saturday or Sunday away from work due to illness. In case of accident, out-patient surgery, or hospitalization, employees will be eligible for one-half of the regular weekly benefit. Short Work Week Benefits will apply to the 24 hours worked for 40 hours straight time rate of pay. For bereavement leave, weekend workers will get Sunday off with their normal premium pay. Weekend workers will not receive paid jury duty leave or paid subpoenaed crown witness leave in-week. If an employee does not work 1,000 hours in a year solely because he works the weekend schedule, he will be treated as if he worked 1,000 hours in a year for pension credit purposes9.
