When Established. ‌ The seniority of an employee in the bargaining unit shall be established and begin to accrue as of the date on which s/he begins to work for the District in a SEIU regular position. After September 1, 2016, in the event that more than one employee has the same hire date, seniority will be established by the order that applications for employment were completed. For hires prior to September 1, 2016, when employees have the same start date, the established alpha priority order below will apply based on the spelling of the employee’s last name through the entire last name when necessary. When Established. The seniority of an employee in the bargaining unit shall be established and begin to accrue as of the date on which s/he begins to work for the District in a regular position. On occasion, some employees may have the same start date. In those situations, the employees so affected shall participate in a drawing to determine position on the seniority list. The drawing shall be conducted openly and the President of the bargaining unit shall be in attendance. The first one drawn has more seniority.
When Established. Seniority: Seniority shall mean “an individual’s length of service with the District in a regular position.” All bargaining unit members as of April 9, 1987, will retain all previous District seniority. The seniority of an employee in the bargaining unit hired after April 9, 1987, shall be established and begin to accrue as of the date of hire as a regular employee in a bargaining unit position. The seniority of a new employee is subject to the provisions of Article VII.6.B. In the event that more than one employee has the same hire date, seniority will be established by the date of the posting for which they were hired. If the two employees were hired under the same posting, seniority will be established by the date and time the employees completed their application for the position.
