Lucent shall have the right to offer Lucent Plan participants these on-line computer services after the Distribution Date, provided that Lucent exercises this right by giving written notice of its intent to do so to AT&T on or before the Distribution Date. If the portion of AT&T Bell Xxxoratories responsible for developing and maintaining the AT&T customized Internet World Wide Web is transferred to Lucent pursuant to the Separation and Distribution Agreement, AT&T shall have the right to use, and Lucent agrees to maintain, this service pursuant to a contract entered into between AT&T and Lucent as soon as practicable after the Close of the Distribution Date. If the portion of AT&T Bell Xxxoratories responsible for developing and maintaining the AT&T customized Internet World Wide Web remains with AT&T pursuant to the Separation and Distribution Agreement, Lucent shall have the right to use, and AT&T agrees to maintain, this service pursuant to a contract entered into between AT&T and Lucent as soon as practicable after the Close of the Distribution Date.

The Web is a valuable research tool for students and employees. Telnet allows the used to log in to remote computers. FTP allows users to download large files and computer software. Newsgroups are discussion groups that are similar to mail lists. The District will provide access to selected newsgroups that relate to subjects that are appropriate to the educational purpose of the system. IRC provided the capability of engaging in “real- time” discussions. The District will provide access to IRC only for specifically defined educational activities.
World Wide Web. Access to the Internet will enable students to use thousands of libraries and databases. Within reason, freedom of speech and access to information will be honored. Families should be warned that some material accessible via the Internet might contain items that are illegal, defamatory, inaccurate or potentially offensive to some people.
