Dr Xxxx represented Australia at the 52nd IFRC meeting and presented research highlights and summarised progress in upgrade of H-1 and the new materials diagnostic facility of the Australian Plasma Fusion Research Facility. Dr Xxxx also presented research results at the EPS Conference on Plasma Physics, and presented an invited talk at the Asia Pacific Physics Conference.
Xxxxxx Xxxx and Xx. Xxxx Xxxxxxxx, MA’02, PhD’08, joined the Department as assistant professors. The Department launched a seven-week McGill Mini-EdPsych Lecture Series entitled “Learning: A Lifetime Journey.” ⏵ The Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) Xxxxx XxXxxx Professor Xx. Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx received a major Canadian International Development Agency grant to study post-harvest management in Ethiopia. Research funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) includes: Xx. Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxx’s investigation on the impact of cyber-bullying on children and adolescents; Xx. Xxxx Xxxxxx, BA’82, Dr. Xxxxxx Xxxxxx, PhD’96, Xx. Xxxxxx Xxxxxx-Wilson, BA’87, DipColTeach’90, and Xx. Xxxxxxx Xxxx’s, BEd’79, MA’84, PhD’91, study of an eastern Quebec Mi’gmaq community’s language revitalization; and Xx. Xxxxxx Xxxxxx-Meyerring and Xx. Xxxxxxx Xxxx’s examina- tion of the state of writing in Canadian doctoral education. Also receiving grants were Xx. Xxxxx Xxxxxx, BEd’92, MEd’94, for her research on teaching mathematics to at risk youth, from the Fonds québécois de la recherche sur la société et la culture (FQRSC) and Xx. Xxxxxxxx Xxxxxx, PhD’01, and Xxxxx Xxxxxx for their work on new teacher education initiatives in our BEd pro- grams, from the McGill Teaching and Learning Initiative Fund. Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxx received the Xx. Xxxxx Xxxxxxx Guha Award in International Development Education, Xxx Xxx Xxxx won the Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxx Fellowship in Education and Xxxxx X’Xxxxxx, BEd’96, MA’07, won the Xxxxx Xxxx Xxxx Xxxxxxxxxx Award. Xx. Xxxx Xxxxxxx joins the Department to teach International Education. Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxxx, the coordinator of DISE grad- uate programs, retired in April 2008. We wish her a well- deserved, restful and rewarding retirement. The Paulo and Xxxx Xxxxxx International Project for Critical Pedagogy was launched by Canada Research Chair Xx. Xxx Xxxxxxxxx and Xx.
