Mentorship program. The following are set forth to identify personnel who are enrolled in the Department’s mentorship program and are qualified to fill the acting position at two separate levels. These shall be identified as Acting Lieutenant and Acting Captain: Acting Captain positions shall be those identified and qualified to fill the position of acting Captain as the sole duty officer. The candidate must have successfully completed all the qualifications to perform this role. Acting Lieutenant positions shall be those identified and qualified to fill the position of acting lieutenant when there is an officer on shift and the lieutenant’s position is vacant. Department candidates that are enrolled in the mentorship program will be required to complete the required training as the course(s) become available. The Fire Chief may exempt a candidate from partaking in a particular course due to hardship and will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Candidates will be required to submit quarterly progress reports to the Fire Chief no later than one week after the end of each quarter to remain an active participant in the program. Candidates that continue to show progress towards completing the required qualifications will be paid upgrade pay while filling the position in an acting capacity. Upgrade will not be paid if; 1) Lieutenant’s position is covered by the on-duty shift Lieutenant, 2) progress report(s) are not submitted within the required time frame, 3) candidate(s) that does not apply and/or complete an offered required course.
