Outpatient care definition

Outpatient care means care rendered by a state-licensed, approved or certified detoxification, residential treatment or outpatient program, or partial hospitalization program on a periodic basis, including, but not limited to, patient diagnosis, assessment and treatment, individual, family and group counseling and educational and support services. Outpatient care means the use, on both a scheduled and a nonscheduled basis, of any or all of the following therapeutic techniques, as identified in a treatment plan for individuals physiologically or psychologically dependent upon or abusing alcohol or drugs:

  • This benefit provides medically necessary Outpatient care if you are outside the Plan's service area and experience an unexpected illness or injury that would not be considered an Emergency Medical Condition, but which should be treated before returning home.
