Pretext for discrimination definition

Pretext for discrimination means both that the [employer's] proffered reason was false and that [the unlawful] discrimination was the [true] reason"54 (emphasis added). But the jury may infer unlawful discrimination if "the plaintiff proves that the employer's proffered reasons are pretextual."55
