Rank Seniority definition

Rank Seniority means the length of continuous service an employee has worked in the department in a particular rank; to include probationary period in that rank, commencing with an employee’s date of appointment to that rank.
Rank Seniority means the amount of continuous full-time sworn law enforcement service with the agency in the rank of either Corporal or Sergeant. Each rank is independent of the other and upon promotion from Corporal to Sergeant or demotion from Sergeant to Corporal, rank seniority shall commence on the effective date of the newly assigned rank.
Rank Seniority means length of continuous employment in an employee’s current job classification.

Examples of Rank Seniority in a sentence

  • Rank Seniority shall be determined by date of appointment to respective ranks.

  • For “Rank Seniority,” any two (2) or more Police Lieutenants hired or promoted on the same day, the governing factor for Rank Seniority shall be the highest numeric of the last two digits in the employee’s Social Security number.

  • While on an unpaid leave of absence due to work related illness or injury, and/or any leave covered by the Family and Medical Leave Act, Rank Seniority and Service shall continue to accrue.

  • Rank Seniority shall accumulate during periods of vacation, sick leave, military leave, or other authorized periods of paid absence, provided, however, that seniority shall not accumulate during periods of unpaid leaves of absence for greater than thirty (30) calendar days, except for job injury.

  • Time off as a result of disciplinary action will be subtracted from the Rank Seniority Service Date.

  • In the process of retreating, the Rank Seniority Date List shall be utilized.

  • Any voluntary demotion to a rank below the employee's current rank shall be based on a Rank Seniority Date which is derived from a combination of all credited service in the rank to which the employee has voluntarily demoted and all credited service in higher ranks held on a probationary or permanent status.

  • In the event that two or more personnel have the same Rank Seniority which is the same date of promotion to the rank, the employee with the most Rank Seniority held in the next lower rank shall have preference.

  • In computing both City and Rank Seniority, all time spent on paid leave of absence shall be included and all time spent on unpaid leave of absence shall be excluded.

  • An employee shall have no seniority as a Sergeant (Rank Seniority), for the initial probationary period, but upon completion of the probationary period, the employee’s Rank Seniority shall be retroactive to the date of promotion.


More Definitions of Rank Seniority

Rank Seniority means the effective date of promotion to a particular rank. Seniority for an employee rehired shall commence on the date of rehire. If two (2) or more employees have the same date of hire or promotion, their respective seniority dates shall be determined in the order of their Department Serial Number (DSN), determined after the completion of the Police Academy, if their department serial number was issued on a competitive basis. In the event that the DSN was issued in any other fashion than a competitive basis, then the employee’s seniority will be determined by averaging each competing employee’s academic score and firearms score from their respective Police Academy records.
Rank Seniority is based on the date of promotion and actual time a member has spent in a specified officer rank. This definition is to be used for promotional purposes only.
