Classification Seniority definition

Classification Seniority is defined as the length of service in a specific job classification within the bargaining unit, beginning with the date an employee starts to serve a probationary appointment. Classification Seniority shall be interrupted only by separation because of resignation, discharge for just cause, failure to return upon expiration of a leave of absence, failure to respond to a recall from layoff, or retirement.

  • When an employee bumps, demotes or transfers, Classification Seniority in the class to which the employee is bumping, demoting, or transferring, shall include Classification Seniority in all related classes in the same or higher salary range in which the employee has served with the State of Minnesota.

More Definitions of Classification Seniority

Classification Seniority. Means regular employees' length of service in their present classification. All regular employees shall be credited with classification seniority equivalent to their length of service in their present classification with the Employer.

An employee who serves a temporary appointment in a class and receives a probationary appointment to that class shall have Classification Seniority credited to the beginning of the temporary appointment in that class, provided there was no break in service between appointments. For purposes of Classification Seniority, time served in either the classification of Engineer, Principal or Land Surveyor, Principal may be credited interchangeably.

Classification Seniority is defined as the length of continuous employment since the date of the nurse's initial probationary appointment to the classification within the bargaining unit and the department. Seniority is not accrued for time served in an emergency, provisional except as provided in E below, temporary or unclassified appointment. Seniority for Registered Nurses who previously worked in the Evaluator I class and are now working in the Evaluator II class, will have their seniority in these two (2) classifications merged. This means that seniority for the Evaluator II class will be combined with the duration of time spent in the Evaluator I class.
Classification Seniority means seniority based on the time served in a particular job classification within the Fire Department. An employee’s Classification Seniority shall commence on the first day of work in a job classification and shall also include time served in all higher ranking job classifications held by the employee within the Fire Department. Ties in Classification Seniority shall be broken by the employee’s ranking on the eligible list maintained by the Minneapolis Human Resources Department for the classification in question and according to the rules of the Minneapolis Civil Service Commission. Classification Seniority lists are maintained by the Minneapolis Fire Department.
Classification Seniority means the length of employment in a particular job classification from the employee's most recent date of entry into the employee's job classification. Job classifications shall correspond with the job classifications contained in this agreement. Within sixty (60) calendar days after this Agreement is executed, or when the Union reasonably requests it, the Board of Education shall provide the Union with a seniority list showing the names of all employees together with their respective dates of district and classification seniority. This list shall be deemed conclusive for purposes of district seniority unless the Union and/or any employee files a grievance claiming that the list contains errors or omissions within sixty (60) days after it is provided to the Union. A tie in district seniority shall occur when two or more employees have the same date of hire. Such ties will be broken based upon the last four digits of the employee’s social security number with the higher number having the greater seniority. District-wide seniority determinations which were made on the basis of the lottery system shall be final and will not be recalculated based upon social security numbers.
