Common use of Absence for Personal Business Clause in Contracts

Absence for Personal Business. a. Absence without pay may be authorized by the superintendent for purposes which he considers urgent and which shall be deducted from the employee's salary in the amount of 1/183 or 1/184 of the base contract salary. The employee shall make application for such authorization at least ten (10) days in advance of the occurrence, or if advance application is not possible, not later than ten (10) days after the occurrence. Length of service, previous record of absence other than that for personal illness, and the purpose of the absence shall be factors in the decisions for such absence. The approval of the principal or the director involved will be required. Involuntary absence not heretofore provided for may be excused by the superintendent. The employee shall make application to the superintendent immediately for excuse for such absence and deductions shall be made in accordance with 1/183 or 1/184 of the contracted base salary, unless such deductions are specifically waived by the School Board on recommendation of the superintendent of schools.
