Common use of Adult Apprentices Clause in Contracts

Adult Apprentices. At a meeting of the TICA Apprentice and Training Committee on the 11th Sept. 2008 an agreement was reached on the employment of adult apprentices to be trained in the industry. The NJC acknowledges the need to maintain an annual level of apprentices in the Industry necessary to meet the predicted severe skills shortfall. Despite strenuous efforts past and current, intake of apprentices has not been sufficient to meet the requirement and has left the Industry under resourced and exposed. It is not and will not be the intention to reduce the number of entrants through the normal apprentice scheme. The NJC reaffirms its support for the Young Persons Apprenticeship Scheme as the principal route into the Industry. This reaffirmation is confirmed by restricting access to Adult Apprenticeships to those companies who can demonstrate that at time of offering a place on an apprenticeship course to an Adult they are also employing Young persons as apprentices. Every attempt should be made to regulate and plan entry bearing in mind the needs of the Industry locally and nationally. The NJC actively encourage its members to recruit apprentices irrespective of gender, colour or creed, with equal opportunity given to all. At a meeting of the NJCECI on the November 2012 it was agreed as follows: Adult apprentices are employees entering the industry as an apprentice after their 23rd birthday. The terms of the apprenticeship agreement are to be strictly in accordance with this agreement, the period of apprenticeship being 4 years.
