Alcohol and Drugs in the Workplace. All faculty must report to work in a condition fit to perform their assigned duties unimpaired by alcohol or drugs. The University and all faculty must comply with the provisions of the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act, the Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Regulations, the provisions of WAC 172-64 (Alcohol Policy at Eastern Washington University), and the University’s Drug-Free Workplace policy. Faculty may not use or possess alcohol while on duty, except when authorized by the University as part of a University-sponsored event. The possession or use of illegal drugs or marijuana is strictly prohibited.

The following rules and standards apply to all employees either on ECNG’s property, during the workday, or during ECNG sponsored business events. Anyone who violates this policy will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or services. ECNG strictly prohibits the following:  Being over the legal limit of alcohol as per the Canadian Criminal Code during the workday;  Being under the influence of an illegal or controlled substance during the workday;  Driving for work while over the legal limit of alcohol;  Driving for work while under the influence of an illegal or controlled substance;  Distribution, dispensation, sale or purchase of alcohol or an illegal or controlled substance on ECNG property; and  Unlawful manufacture, possession or use of alcohol or an illegal or controlled substance at work. Legally-prescribed medications are excluded from this policy and permitted only to the extent that the use of such medications does not adversely affect the employee’s work ability, job performance, or the safety of that individual or others. ECNG also provides Advil or other over the counter headache medication as available. ECNG occasionally serves alcohol at office events. Employees are responsible for appropriate alcohol consumption. ECNG will provide transportation home if for any reason an employee requests a ride home or asks for assistance with respect to alcohol consumption.

While ECNG recognizes the Duty to Accommodate according to the law, a prescription for cannabis does not entitle an employee to smoke, ingest or utilize cannabis in the workplace. If you have a drug or alcohol addiction, you are required to disclose this to either your manager, the Legal Department, or the President so that we can work with you to provide accommodation. ECNG recognizes that the consumption of alcohol and other drug use can impair an individual’s well-being and interfere with his/her ability to function.   • Violence in the Workplace (a) The parties agree that violence shall be defined as any incident in which an employee is abused, threatened or assaulted while performing his or her work. The parties agree it includes the application of force, threats with or without weapons and severe verbal abuse. The parties agree that such incidents will not be condoned. Any employee who believes he/she has been subjected to such incident shall report this to a supervisor who will make every reasonable effort to rectify the situation. For purposes of sub-article (a) only, employees as referred to herein shall mean all employees of the Employer notwithstanding Article 2.12.
