Common use of Approved Absence Clause in Contracts

Approved Absence. a)For purposes of this Agreement approved absence shall include any lay-off not exceeding thirty (30) months (thirty-six (36) months in the case of an employee with twenty (20) or more years of seniority at time of lay-off); (subject to the provisions of Clause 5.10 (c) of this Section); suspension for disciplinary reasons; bona fide personal illness not exceeding one (1) year for employees with less than five (5) years seniority and two (2) years for employees with five (5) years and more seniority; unavoidable absence for reasons beyond the control of the employee, when promptly reported in writing and accepted by the Company; absence for any reason not exceeding one (1) year provided written approval of the Company has been obtained and absence on Union business outlined in Clause 5.05(c) of this Section.
