Approved Use of Sick Leave Days. Employees may use sick leave days for absence due to personal illness, injury, exposure to contagious disease which could be communicated to others, and for absence due to the need to care for a member of the employee’s immediate family who is ill or injured. “Immediate Family”, for the purpose of this provision shall include spouse, children, father, mother, brother, sister, grandparents, and grandchildren, mother-in-law or father-in-law, son-in-law or daughter-in-law. Employees, upon approval of the responsible administrative officer of the school district, may also use sick leave in an amount up to six (6) work weeks for pregnancy, unless certified by the employee’s treating physician that additional sick leave days in excess of six (6) work weeks is medically necessary. In that event, the treating physician shall certify the additional sick leave days that are medically necessary beyond the six (6) week period. Employees, upon approval of the responsible administrative officer of the school district, may also use sick leave in an amount up to six (6) work weeks for the adoption of a child. Employees, upon approval of the responsible administrative officer of the school district, may also use sick leave days for absence due to death of any of the following members of the employee’s family: spouse, children, father, mother, brother, sister, grandparents, grandchildren, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandparent-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, aunt, and uncle.
