Bereavement and Funeral Leave. A. Unit members will be granted a maximum of five (5) paid work days leave in the event of a death in their immediate family or household. For the purpose of this paragraph only, if additional time away from work is needed, a unit member may use accumulated sick leave up to a maximum of one-half (1/2) of the total sick time accumulated. B. For the purpose of this Article "immediate family" is defined as spouse, significant other, children (or person for whom the unit member acted as a parent), parents (or person who acted as the unit member’s parent when the employee was a child), grandparents, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, stepchildren, xxxxxx children, stepparents, half-brothers, half-sisters, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law. C. Unit members will be granted paid funeral leave, by the appropriate supervisor, to a maximum of one (1) workday to permit an employee's attendance at the funeral of any of the unit member's aunts, uncles, nieces or nephews. Up to an additional two (2) days of paid funeral leave may be granted by the appropriate supervisor if extended travel is required in order to attend the funeral. The unit member may supplement funeral leave with accrued annual leave or compensatory time with supervisory approval.
