Extended Illness Leave. 4.1 When an employee is absent from his/her duties on account of illness or accident for a period of five (5) school months or less, whether or not the illness or accident arises out of or in the course of employment, the amount deducted from the salary due the employee for any of the five-school-month periods in which the absence occurs shall not exceed the sum which is actually paid a substitute employee employed to fill the employee’s position during his/her absence, or if no substitute employee was employed, the amount that would have been paid to the substitute had a substitute been employed. The sick leave, including accumulated sick leave, and the five-month period shall run consecutively. In other words, the five-month period stipulated above begins immediately after use of the employee’s current annual ten (10) days plus any accumulated sick leave. When the employee remains absent after use of the five-month differential pay leave, the employee shall be in unpaid status.
4.2 When the employee has exhausted all available sick leave, including accumulated sick leave, and continues to be absent on account of illness or accident for a period beyond the five-month period, and the employee is not medically able to resume the duties of his/her position, the employee shall, if not placed in another position, be placed on a reemployment list for a period of twenty-four (24) months if the employee is on probationary status or for a period of thirty-nine (39) months if the employee is on permanent status. When the employee is medically able, during the 24- or 39-month period, the employee shall be returned to employment in a position for which he/she is credentialed and is qualified with preference to return to the same position held before leave if available and meets the needs of the district. The 24- or 39-month period shall commence at the expiration of the five-month period described above.
Extended Illness Leave. A unit member may be granted a leave of absence, with the approval of the Superintendent of Schools, for one (1) year or less without pay for serious family or personal illness. An employee in such a non-pay status may continue as a member of the group health insurance, if they qualify for FMLA, after the first twelve (12) weeks the employee will be required to assume the Board's share of the premiums in addition to any premium he/she theretofore paid for dependent coverage. If return is within ninety (90) duty days and such return is stipulated at the beginning of the leave, the same position shall be offered. If the leave requested is for more than ninety (90) duty days the unit member will be offered employment upon expiration of the leave in the first available position for which he/she is certified within two (2) years from the end of the leave, provided that a written request is made to the Office of Human Resources and Employee Relations by June 1.
Extended Illness Leave a. Extended Illness Leave, hereinafter referred to as “EIL” shall be established for certified/licensed personnel who are absent due to their own personal illness or injury following the exhaustion of their accumulated illness and annual allotment of short term leave.
b. The Human Resources Director will administer the EIL. The Human Resources Director will be responsible for reviewing, granting, and/or denying requests for EIL. He/She will also set all guidelines, produce all necessary forms, and carry out any and all duties necessary in administering the EIL.
c. Each certified/licensed staff member who has exhausted all of his/her current and accumulated illness leave may petition the Human Resources Director for extended illness leave by submitting a written request. The maximum number of illness leave assistance days provided to any one employee shall be thirty (30) days in one contractual year, prorated by FTE. Days may or may not be consecutive. More than one request within a contractual year is possible. Extended illness leave days will be granted at the sole discretion of the Human Resources Director with consultation with the Superintendent, if necessary.
d. Upon request of the Human Resources Director, the participating staff member shall submit a physician’s (or other licensed practitioner’s) statement certifying the teacher’s inability to perform his/her assigned duties during the period of absence for which the extended illness leave is requested.
e. Decisions of the Human Resources Director will be communicated to the participating staff member and the payroll office.
f. Extended illness leave days granted under this policy shall not be deducted from the recipient’s future illness leave.
g. Decisions of the Human Resources Director will not be subject to the District’s Grievance Procedure.
Extended Illness Leave. E. Maternity Leave
Extended Illness Leave. Extended Illness Leave, hereinafter referred to as “EIL” shall be established for Administrative Support Group, XXXX, Clerical, and Educational Assistant personnel who are absent due to their own personal illness or injury following the exhaustion of their accumulated illness, vacation and annual allotment of short term leave. Eligibility for Extended Illness Leave includes completion of employee’s probationary period.
Extended Illness Leave. When an employee is absent because of an illness, injury or quarantine for a period of five (5) months or less, the amount deducted from the employee's salary shall not exceed the sum which is actually paid a substitute employee hired to fill the position during the absence. In no event will the substitute salary schedule for the purpose of deduction under this leave exceed Step 1 of the salary schedule for that classification. The use of extended illness leave shall begin when accumulated sick leave, vacation time, compensatory time and other paid leave has been exhausted but the total period of extended illness leave shall not extend beyond five (5) months from the first day of illness, injury or quarantine with the exception of days of absence on industrial accident or illness leave. The District may require the employee to provide verification of the continuing illness, injury or quarantine.
Extended Illness Leave. (Education Code 45196)- After all earned sick leave days at full pay have been used and additional absence due to illness, disability or accident is necessary, the employee shall receive the difference between his/her own salary and the amount paid to a substitute to a total of one hundred (100) days, inclusive of the earned sick leave days at full pay. The Employer shall provide to the employee the name of the substitute upon request. In differential status, if a substitute's wages exceed the employee's wages, the employee is not responsible for the excess cost.
Extended Illness Leave. Subject to the recommendation of the Superintendent and approval by the Board, a unit member may be granted a leave of absence without pay for one (1) year for reasons of a personal illness, illness in the immediate family, elder care, or disability as the reason for the request and may be extended one (1) more year upon written request to the Superintendent and approval by the Board.
Extended Illness Leave. 1. During each school year, when a Unit Member has exhausted all available sick leave, including all accumulated sick leave, and continues to be absent from his or her duties on account of illness or accident for an additional period of up to five (5) school months, whether or not the absence arises out of or in the course of the employment of the Unit Member, the amount deducted from the salary due him/her for any of the additional five
Extended Illness Leave. 12.1 When a certificated Unit Member has exhausted all accrued sick leave, and continues to be absent from his/her duties on account of illness or accident for a period of five (5) school months (100 days) or less, the amount deducted from the salary due him/her shall not exceed the amount which is actually paid a substitute Unit Member employed to fill his/her position during the absence or, if no substitute was employed, the amount which would have been paid to the substitute had one been employed. A Unit Member shall not be provided with more than one five (5) month extended sick leave period per illness or accident. If a school year ends before the five (5) months or 100 days have been exhausted, and the Unit Member is still suffering from the same illness or injury, the Unit Member shall be entitled to take the subsequent year’s sick leave allotment followed by the balance of the five (5) month extended sick leave remaining from the prior year. If the unit member becomes incapacitated due to a different illness or injury, the unit member shall be entitled to another five (5) months (100 days) of extended illness leave.
