Contribution to Standards Sample Clauses

Contribution to Standards. The Uni-Verse project is a research project, which will produce a prototype platform, where the base software and most clients will be open-source and possible to use freely for the European IT and media industry. In the future the real-time protocol Verse [17] can be made into a standard or affect coming standards. The MP3 standard was developed at the Fraunhofer Society by the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, but there is a close collaboration between all Fraunhofer Institutes. The Fraunhofer Society was also highly active in the formulation of the MPEG4 standard. The Uni-Verse system also has the potential to become a de facto standard in the open source world. The Blender Foundation will actively work to make this happen. The collaboration with Xxxxxx, who will include modules from Uni-Verse into their open source multi player on line game engine, also helps to make Uni-Verse used in the open source community.

Contribution to Standards. All outputs (technically all knowledge produced by the project1) will be open and free, in the sense defined by the Open Source Initiative (OSI)2 and the Free Software Foundation3. Specifically, all software will be made available to the community under a GNU General Public Licence (GPL) and all documents will be made available to the community under a Free Documentation Licence (FDL). This adherence to the philosophy of open systems for all activities and results will help contribute, if not to formal standards, at least to common usage and mutual sharing of knowledge in the community, thereby fostering more effective collaboration. Because the GPL / FDL licences are copy- left licences, this ensures that all works or results that are derived from the results of the euCognition activities will also be open and free (and available under GPL / FDL licences).
Contribution to Standards. Many of the contributions that will be made to European standards by this project have already been touched upon in the previous sections. The report suggesting the future direction of European research towards improving the control of viruses/vectors using genetic resistance will be among the most important contributions to be made by this project. This project will contribute to defining and harmonizing pre-standards for evaluation of control strategies based on the use of genetic resistance against plant pathogenic viruses and their vectors. It will also assist in the development and validation of methodologies for analysis of resistance traits, including practical systems for sampling, data mining and analysis that could serve as suggested guidelines to establish control actions and to help authorities in decision making. Indeed, there is a need to unify the conditions of analysis of resistance to bypass the confusion caused by the absence of standard evaluation protocols. Many investigations in the past ended up with incomplete analysis of the resistance, retarding its putative practical application and raising concerns in the public about biosafety of the technologies employed. Such deficiencies should be overcome by setting up pre-standards of evaluation under laboratory and controlled field conditions, including a clear characterisation of the type of resistance, and means to predict associated risks, including those related to the use of transgenic plants. Guidance to prepare protocols to evaluate germplasm for virus resistance are envisaged, and data emerging from model systems must be judged for their relevance and efficacy in crop plants as well as their extent to different viruses and vectors (target and non-target). At present, European research in this field is fragmented and, sometimes, duplicated in member states. Different member states are pursuing very different policies, with varying degrees of complementarity. Considerable research effort is being expended that may never yield successful virus/vector resistant crops. The research direction report, which will identify the most promising new sources and mechanisms of sustainable resistance to plant viruses, and their vectors, for incorporation into conventional and transgenic crops, will be presented to all major funding bodies in Europe (the EU, national funding councils etc.) and will allow these bodies to focus their research efforts on the most promising approaches. This will not to...
