Common use of Departmental Seniority Clause in Contracts

Departmental Seniority. Departmental seniority shall be defined as the employee's continuous length of service within a particular department, measured from the date of entry into each department. Departmental seniority shall prevail in connection with the awarding and filling of positions as is set forth in Article 14, Bid Procedure and Transfer, and will also prevail in connection with any reduction in force as is set forth in Article 15, Reduction in Force. Departmental seniority shall be frozen when an employee transfers from one department to another. Re- entry into a department shall cause the reactivation of previously held seniority, provided the re-entry was from a bargaining unit position.
