Details for Medical Reasons. A. Employees who are temporarily unable to perform their assigned duties as certified by a health care provider may voluntarily submit a written request to the Department for temporary assignment to duties commensurate with the serious injury or illness and the employee’s qualifications. The request will be accompanied by medical certification. The Department may require that such requests be reviewed by a Federal Medical Officer for medical sufficiency and appropriate recommendations. The Department will consider such requests in accordance with applicable rules and regulations and medical recommendations. The Department will, to the extent that it is operationally feasible, temporarily reassign the employee to an appropriate vacancy or duties and responsibilities within his/her own service/section. Such reassignment will be commensurate with the employee’s limitations and qualifications. Employees will continue to be considered for promotional opportunities for which they are otherwise qualified.
