EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT. a) All employees shall be initially engaged upon a three month probationary period. Either party may terminate this probationary period at any time without notice. b) Employees may be engaged under this Agreement as either full time, part time, casual or temporary fixed term/project employees. Each of these is broadly defined as follows: ▪ A full time employee is one engaged to work an average 38 hours per week plus reasonable additional hours. ▪ A part-time employee is an employee engaged on a regular basis to work less than 38 hours per week but may from time to time work 38 hours per week plus reasonable additional hours. A part-time employee is entitled to all the benefits of this agreement on a pro rata basis of 1/38th of the full time entitlement for each hour worked. ▪ A casual employee is one who is engaged and paid as such. A casual employee shall receive a 20% casual loading in addition to their basic periodic hourly rate of pay. A casual employee shall have no entitlement to paid personal/carer’s leave, payment for public holidays not worked or annual leave. In order for a casual employee to qualify for unpaid parental leave under the AFPCS, they must be an eligible casual employee in accordance with Section 264 of the Act. ▪ A temporary fixed term/project employee is an employee engaged for a specific period, task or project. Such employees shall be advised of their fixed period of engagement upon commencement of employment. ▪ In addition to the above categories, employees may be engaged as apprentices (as provided for elsewhere in this Agreement).
