Frequency of Assessment. The performance of CAIs will normally be formally assessed in the term of the regular academic year following the third offering of a given course by the instructor within a five (5) year period.

(b) Contract Academic Instructors with a Right of First Refusal will normally be formally assessed every fifth year after the initial assessment provided that they have taught the course at least three (3) times in that period.
(c) Assessments may be agreed upon mutually by the parties to permit assessment for a Contract Academic Instructor who does not meet the timetable above but who has taught at least two (2) courses during that five (5) year period.
(d) The Contract Academic Instructor may defer the assessment by one (1) year.

2. Tenured teachers shall have a Performance Appraisal once every five years. Additional performance appraisals may be conducted during a non evaluation year if the principal considers it advisable to do so because of circumstances relating to the teacher’s performance. Where a non tenured teacher is experiencing difficulties every effort should be made to ensure that appropriate decisions are made prior to the teacher obtaining his/her tenure.
