LEAVE OF ABSENCE: EMPLOYEE ELECTED TO UNION OFFICE. (a) The Employer shall grant an unpaid leave of absence with accrued service and classification seniority to an employee who is appointed or elected to a union office for a period of up to and including five years. (b) A request for such an approved leave must be given to the Employer by the Union, in writing, on union letterhead and signed by the Treasurer of the Union at least 30 days prior to the leave taking effect. (c) An employee who obtains such a leave of absence shall return to their former position, with the accrued service and classification seniority, within the 30 calendar days after the completion of their employment with the Union. If their former position no longer exists the employee shall be deemed laid-off and the provisions of Article 13 – Layoff and Recall shall apply. (d) The Employer is not obligated to grant such leave to more than one employee at a time.
